After a long arduous journey, I'm now safely ensconced in room 171 at the Airtel Plaza Hotel in Van Nuys. Not much else to say, really, except I really really hate 12 hour plane flights.
Also it's extremely wet here, and I need to go get some camera film from somewhere. :-P
Sat in the foyer for a while, reading, in the hope I'd spot a fellow con-goer. I spotted Rhonda (who I'd first met at Visions in 1998) but she was already disappearing out the door. Otherwise there were just too many normal people there.
Mmmm, Dr Pepper.
Encountered swiftangel, ravenevermore, and gordon_r_d in the foyer! And then alryssa and mcganndoc turned up! I am less alone!
(Blah, I think I'll refer to people by name...)
Chinese food room party!
Off to bed now. Oh, and I found some camera film, so pictures were taken (and by Nate as well)
Meg arrives tomorrow!
And, shit, just discovered I forgot to pack something vital - the plug adapter for my rechargeable shaver. Unlike NZ hotels, the Airtel does not have universal power sockets. Doh! Looks like a trip to Radio Shack is in order tomorrow.
What I'm Reading: Suppressed Inventions and Other Discoveries by Jonathan Eisen.
Basically a bunch of articles written by various people. Usually along the lines of "Genius invents cure for cancer/anti-gravity/perpetual energy source, genius runs tests, genius is shut down by scientific community and is later found dead under suspicious circumstances."
Most of it is interesting, though some of the reference material is a tad dated and/or scientifically inaccurate. But hey.
